We are constantly innovating and improving our products. One of our recent improvements is the switch to plastic double roller castors with precision ball bearings for our working chairs. This upgrade provides more ease of use, higher quality and better performance. We'd like to tell you how this innovation came about and what it means for our customers.
How did you come up with the idea?
We had been wanting to move from steel-cased casters to plastic casters for some time. Our steel casters are effective and quality, but they make more noise on hard floors such as tile. In addition, switching to plastic double roller casters would have several advantages, such as improving load capacity and turning capacity.
What are the advantages of double roll castors?
- Improved load capacity: the chairs can handle higher weights without losing functionality.
- Easier turning: because of the double roller wheel, the pivot point is in the center, making it easier for the castor to rotate around its own axis. This allows the user to turn more easily and requires less force.
- Quiet in use: plastic wheels muffle noise better, especially on hard surfaces. This makes the chair more pleasant for users and environment.
- Increased safety: the braking function on these new casters has been changed. These are now braked on the inside of the rim via a toothing, which is much more wear-resistant.
Which working chairs do you use this on?
The double roller castors are now standard on our skip chairs Levi, Adam and Adam Plus. Even on the Adam Plus, which is suitable for users weighing up to 300 kg, this application of the wheels allows us to use the standard 100 mm wheels without compromising on load capacity.
How did the process of developing the double roller casters go?
After intensive discussions with our suppliers, including Steinco and Protempo, we developed a solution that is both technically and financially feasible. This process took about a year. By cooperating with manufacturers in the Netherlands and Germany, we were able to develop plastic double roller wheels with double precision ball bearings. This provided not only a quieter seat, but also a higher load capacity and easier maneuvering.
A challenge in this was one of keeping it price interesting. We were willing to take on more costs, but it also had to remain commercially interesting for our customers. In the end, we managed to achieve this.
